I live!

People keep saying the wondered what happened to me, so I thought I better post and let you all know I’m good and very un-newsworthy. Writing and editing are happening and I’m trying to get on LJ and comment! Sorry if I’ve missed anything.

While I’m posting, here’s some good links: Firstly a competition being run by thewritingshow.com where you submit the first chapter of a novel. There are five monetary prizes to be given out. I’m entering this one—and a bunch of you should too!

The writing show contest.

Also, for those of you who didn’t see this one, here’s an article by Peter V. Brett on how he wrote his first novel on the subway. It’s a good one for those of you who don’t think you have the time to write.

Subway Writing.

And, if you aren’t already listening and would love to know more about publishing from the horse’s mouth, TOR publishing do regular podcasts. I particularly loved the two on cover art.

TOR podcasts.

The Subway Writing article is fascinating. I've just finished sneakily reading it at work between calls :)

If you had a PDA (or whatever he used) you could be writing a novel instead! Grin.

I love all the links you put up. They're always so helpful.

Are you going to enter the comp?

glad to hear you are well. Between the caffeine addiction and infected hand I was wondering... ")

I'm all good. Still chugging down the caffeine, but my hand healed up fine.

I get injured or bitten by spiders or snakes ALL the time, so I'm pretty good at bouncing back.

I have to say that I really liked the article on Subway writing as well. I know that I have problems writing at home, I do better at work or at coffee shops.

I hope things are going well and the editing and everything is going better than hoped. ^_~

I think I mostly need to be home alone to write. My house is just a bit loud and insane otherwise. Sigh.

I don't typically write well out of the house... maybe in a hotel room...

Thank you! You are an endless source of information. I really appreciate the random links you've posted, like the mailing list one. I love that sort of thing.

I'll have to try and get around to posting more. I often find good links, then I'm too slack to share them. Bad me.

Hey, I'm the same. Don't feel bad. One of these days you'll see a twenty page post from me full of things for everyone to check out. XD

That'll be a tax on my f-list.

I mostly feel bad when I fail to get links to competitions up. Because People Should Enter Competitions.

Yeah, I've never entered a writing competition. Don't they often cost money? I need to check this one out.

Oh man. I wish we could save entries. I want to go back and read those things you linked.

You could always do what I do and have a 'read later' folder in your IE favorite's list and save the links there.

Or email them to yourself.

Well hello! Thanks for adding me as a friend! :)

Based on your add_a_writer post I think we could get along. Though I'm a guildwars player, not a wow player. Grin.

Wonderful and thanks for adding me! :-) We have some friends who also play Guild Wars, so that's cool!

Often guildwars and wow players lock horns because they're so alike. :P

I've tried playing games with monthly fees and it stresses me out too much. I either feel like I'm not playing enough and feel guilty. Or I feel like I'm wasting too much time on it (and still feel like I'm not playing often enough) and still feel bad. Grin.

Oh boy, I definitely know what you mean about the monthly fees! But it's the only 'addiction' I have, so I figure it's a lot cheaper (and less dangerous) than other ones I *could* have! Heh!

[info]talithakalago

Guildwars has no monthly fees!

I feel like all gamers should support them to try and encourage more companies to do the same. :P

Hey, I'm from [info]addme_creative- I said I'd give you an add awhile back but life got in the way and I finally caught up on all my internet-related stuff. Hope you don't mind.

That Subway Writing article was a very encouraging read- reminds me that I really could find time to write if I just looked hard enough :D

Good stuff. Added.

And yes, I've written on trains before--however such places seem to have a seriously detrimental effect on the quality of my work. :P

Writing Question's

Thanks for the tip about the writing contests. I did have a couple of questions for you......
1. How many pages is 2,500 hundred words??
And..
2. What is a contemporary times style of writing?

Or even if you have any good web links that could point me in the right direction that would be great. Hope all is well... :-)

Re: Writing Question's

The reason people don't count pages is because the font and the word formatting can change the word count so drastically. However most word processing programs have an automantic word count.

In microsoft word its under Tools> Word count.

Contemporary means modern. So when people want contemporary writing, they want the same style as the 2008 best sellers lists. They do not want Shakespeare.
